Update: Internet browsers …

Since posing the question “Which Internet browser is best for learning professionals?” last week, I have received great feedback and learned new information that bears sharing.

Google Chrome

The new Google Chrome browser is still in its infancy. Updates will be many and often during its beta phase. Google keeps a news feed to announce release notes for each update. Many of the very latest updates are only issued to their Dev Channel subscribers, but others are issued to the public. Google Chrome updates itself when public updates are released.

I was thoroughly enjoying the speed of Google Chrome when I authored the first post on this topic. However, I’ve found myself spending more and more time in Flock 2.0, the social web browser.

Firefox

It appears that Firefox generates a lot of enthusiasm, primarily due to its wide range of add-ons. See Matthew Bibby’s 12 Firefox Add-Ons. Matthew addresses one of the main concerns I have had with non-IE browsers. They do not always render web pages reliably. Using the IE Tab add-on for Firefox, I can “open a virtual IE tab within firefox.” When I read this, I was ready to jump on the Firefox bandwagon, but…

Flock

Flock is a new way of browsing that incorporates an RSS feeds panel, email tracking, online favorites, media sharing, a blog editor, a web clipboard, and a number of social networking tools. I’ve been enthralled by all these tools in one location.

After reading Matthew Bibby’s Firefox post, I began investigating the add-ons available for Flock (Tools – Add-ons – Plugins Tab – Get Plugins link). To my surprise, I was taken to the Firefox plugins directory. I found the IE Tab add-on, and installed it in my Flock browser. It worked exactly as Matthew had described!

It turns out that Flock 2.0 is built on Firefox 3 technology. About Flock, Dan Burkhart says:

So now you don’t have to abandon your love affair with your new favorite browser to check out the latest performance, security and feature enhancements from Mozilla. We’ve got them all right here for you!
